Grade Reduction on Assignment
- Description: Reduction in points or letter grade on an individual assignment
- Appropriate for: Minor academic integrity violations
- Not appropriate for: Major academic integrity violations; repeat violations
- Availability: No restrictions
- Supporting materials (included with sanction letter): None
- Instructions to student (included with sanction letter): “You will receive a grade reduction of [PERCENTAGE or NUMBER OF POINTS] on the assignment that led to this referral, [ASSIGNMENT NAME].”
Failing Grade on Assignment
- Description: Zero grade on an individual assignment
- Appropriate for: Minor academic integrity violations
- Not appropriate for: Major academic integrity violations; repeat violations (may be appropriate as a supplementary sanction, but not as a stand-alone sanction)
- Availability: No restrictions
- Supporting materials (included with sanction letter): None
- Instructions to student (included with sanction letter): “You will receive a zero grade on the assignment that led to this referral, [ASSIGNMENT NAME].”
Resubmit Academic Assignment
- Description: Student must re-submit assignment for no credit
- Appropriate for: Minor academic integrity violations
- Not appropriate for: Major academic integrity violations; repeat violations
- Availability: No restrictions
- Supporting materials (included with sanction letter): None
- Instructions to student (included with sanction letter): “You are required to redo the academic assignment that led to this disciplinary referral, [ASSIGNMENT], for no academic credit. This assignment must be submitted to [CONDUCT OFFICER] by no later than [DUE DATE]. Once received, it will be forwarded to [INSTRUCTOR] for review. If your work is found to be satisfactory, this sanction will be considered completed. If found to be unsatisfactory (not of passable quality), the assignment will be rejected and additional sanctions will be imposed.”

F Grade in Course
- Description: F grade in course
- Appropriate for: Major academic integrity violations
- Not appropriate for: Minor academic integrity violations, non-academic violations
- Availability: No restrictions
- Supporting materials (included with sanction letter): None
- Instructions to student (included with sanction letter): “You will receive a failing grade in the course [COURSE NAME] ([COURSE NUMBER]).”
XF Grade in Course
- Description: XF grade in course (disciplinary F grade)
- Appropriate for: Major academic integrity violations
- Not appropriate for: Minor academic integrity violations, non-academic violations
- Availability: No restrictions
- Supporting materials (included with sanction letter): None
- Note: An XF grade is given only for disciplinary reasons. Unlike an F grade, an XF grade cannot be eliminated from the student’s GPA, even if the course is successfully re-taken, unless the student successfully petitions the Campus Appeals Committee for removal of the X prefix. The student must wait at least 18 months before submitting a petition. If the petition is successful, the XF grade will be converted to an F.

This failing grade will appear as an XF (disciplinary F) on your transcript. As per the Academic Integrity Policy, you may appeal to have the ‘X’ prefix removed from the grade.'
